FRESHWATER LAKE OVERNIGHT CAMPING GROUND

Public BBQ

A free donation camp in the Victoria Valley at the southern end of the Grampians, with plenty of shady, level sites for tents, vans and RVs, a few fire pits and cut firewood left about. It is kept in good order by a caretaker working largely at his own cost, so leave it cleaner than you found it. Picnic tables and bins sit near the entrance. The long drop toilet is old and serviceable at best, so bring your own paper and plan to be self-sufficient. The lake is often dry, but when it holds water the walk around it is lovely and the sunrises and sunsets over it are the best thing here; mown tracks and signposted lookouts run through the site. Mt Abrupt and some spectacular walking are close by. This is snake country, so watch your step.
